What a joy to get to write books for children — a bunch of Little Golden Books® and other fun picture books, beginner biographies, books on sports, science, and history, readers’ guides to classic literature, as well as classroom curriculum. (For a full list, check out my Books page.)
Once upon a time, a long time ago — before I was a children’s book author — I was a teacher.
Over the years, I taught preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school students. I also taught Sunday School and Children’s Church and volunteered at VBS (Vacation Bible School). I tutored homeschool students from grades 2-12 in Creative Writing, Literature, and Language Arts. I’ve even taught a few seminary classes as an adjunct and/ or associate professor.
Although it’s been a few years since I was in the classroom full-time, and it’s not the biggest part of my life and work right now, I will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart for kids, parents, and teachers. And I’m delighted that I still sometimes get to do special events for these very special people.
